Future Development
The developmental goal for the College of Oral Medicine is to become a research institute based on dentistry and humanities, and maintain collaboration with various industries. The five main developmental focuses are on the teaching, research, service, international, and industrial aspects.
Teaching aspect:
The college focuses on the development of the fundamental knowledge on oral medicine and oral specialist programs. The long-term integration and innovation of the COM’s course curriculum and equipment serve as the role model for other dental schools. Moreover, the COM is highly approved by the Ministry of Education, and has received grants of excellence in teaching throughout the years. The college is the first and only private school that evolved into a public college, serving as another proof of the superiority in the college’s effort and education.
Research Aspect:
The COM stresses the balance of medical knowledge, clinical skill, and artistry in its education. The main focus of the school system is to foster the talents and critical thinking skills of research professionals in dental science. This substantial education system leads the other medical universities in the Nation, and often wins competitions that take place among universities in Taiwan. In 2011, students enrolled in the international invention contest, gained reputation and approval from others, and once again proved the school’s devotion and ability in creativity and basic research.
Service Aspect:
In order to foster students’ sense of social responsibility and service spirit, the college implemented a complete Communications Service Request (CSR) policy, which encourages students to participate in the remote areas and overseas health care service team every summer/winter. The long-term efforts and services are strongly approved by the government, and the COM’s medical service team that visits the College of Southern India is awarded by the Nation’s president every year. Moreover, the three dental clinics operated by the school, besides serving as sites to foster students’ clinical education and service spirit, are all granted the National Quality Awards. Being approved by the government’s quality assurance program, the social responsibility and service spirit of the staffs and students are evident along with the contribution TMU has made for the community.
International Aspect:
In order to promote internationalization, the College of Oral Medicine (COM) is cooperating with up to 16 globally-known universities and research centers. The COM pushed on promoting the international exchange program and establishing an international double-degree program. In addition, the COM is actively encouraging the international exchange system in the Master’s and PhD programs. The exchange program not only allows the students to be recognized in both countries, but also offers excellent scholarships to award the students. Additionally, the school is actively recruiting foreign staffs and international instructors to enhance the English education system and the enrollment of foreign students. The institute is evolving into a worldwide system and cultivating students on the globalized medical prospect in dentistry.
Industrial Aspect:
Under the lead of the school’s policy and research department, the school members not only focus on education and research but also interact actively with the outside industries. The industrial research and personnel training present a substantial leading achievement among all private colleges in the nation. The college is taking the role of linking the technology industry with the scientific medical field, and the students benefit from this connection with the industries. The college also holds degree program in industrial medical equipment. Well-known international scholars and specialists are often invited to interact with students regarding research and industrial development. As a result, students will acquire a wider international aspect and multiple task skills.
